Permits

Skip permit: Fife Council

First published 11 September 2026. Last checked 11 September 2026.

If the skip sits on a Fife public road, footpath or verge, you need a skip permit from Fife Council under the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984 – not Highways Act 1980. The apply form and road-and-pavement permits page (checked 11 September 2026) publish £26 per week with at least 7 days’ notice. Pay online by card at the end of the form.

If the skip sits in a pay-and-display bay or car park, Parking Management may add a separate loss-of-revenue charge after the skip permit is approved – allow extra time.

When you need one

The statutory hook is Roads (Scotland) Act 1984, section 85.

Who applies

The online form asks for skip hire company information. In practice the hire firm usually applies – ask them at booking.

A sensible order

  1. Can it sit wholly on the drive? If yes, book that and skip the permit.
  2. If it has to go on the road, tell the hire firm which roads authority covers your street and ask them to apply under the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984.
  3. Check their waste-carrier registration on SEPA – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Size the job on the size guide.

Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no skip-hire prices on this page. The fee figures are Fife Council's published permit charges, not a hire quote. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
