Permits

Skip permit: Renfrewshire Council

First published 11 September 2026. Last checked 11 September 2026.

If the skip sits on a Renfrewshire public road, pavement or verge, you need permission from Renfrewshire Council as roads authority under the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984 – not Highways Act 1980. The council’s fees schedule lists a “permit to place a skip on a road”. On 11 September 2026 we could not read a printed pound figure from that page’s public HTML (Cloudflare challenge). Do not invent a fee – ask the hire firm or open the fees page yourself.

We are not printing a pound figure for Renfrewshire. Third-party and press figures exist; none of those is a substitute for the council’s own schedule. Recheck the fees page or your hire firm’s quote before you book.

When you need one

The statutory hook is Roads (Scotland) Act 1984, section 85.

Who applies

Not printed as householder-only on the fees hub we could read. Local operators usually apply – ask the hire firm at booking.

A sensible order

  1. Can it sit wholly on the drive? If yes, book that and skip the permit.
  2. If it has to go on the road, tell the hire firm which roads authority covers your street and ask them to apply under the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984.
  3. Check their waste-carrier registration on SEPA – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Size the job on the size guide.

Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no skip-hire prices on this page. No Renfrewshire permit fee is quoted here because a printed pound figure was not readable on the public pages we could fetch. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
