Skip permit: West Dunbartonshire Council

First published 11 September 2026. Last checked 11 September 2026.

If the skip sits on a West Dunbartonshire public road where no private alternative exists, you need a skip permit from West Dunbartonshire Council under the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984 – not Highways Act 1980. The applications and permits price list (as of 1 April 2026; checked 11 September 2026) publishes £60.10 for week 1 and £26.78 for each additional week. A minimum of 10 working days’ notice is required.

The fee does not include traffic management orders. Subject to approval – do not place first.

When you need one

The statutory hook is Roads (Scotland) Act 1984, section 85.

A sensible order

  1. Can it sit wholly on the drive? If yes, book that and skip the permit.
  2. If it has to go on the road, tell the hire firm which roads authority covers your street and ask them to apply under the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984.
  3. Check their waste-carrier registration on SEPA – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Size the job on the size guide.

Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no skip-hire prices on this page. The fee figures are West Dunbartonshire Council's published permit charges, not a hire quote. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
