Permits
Skip permit: East Dunbartonshire Council
If the skip sits on an East Dunbartonshire public road, you need a skip permit from East Dunbartonshire Council under the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984 – not Highways Act 1980. The apply page (checked 11 September 2026) publishes £52 per week. Applications must arrive at least 7 days before occupation and are generally processed within five working days. The first permit covers up to one month; extensions are £40 per month up to three months from the original date, then a fresh application at £75.
Placing a skip without consent attracts a £195 charge on the page we checked. No tacit consent – wait for written permission.

A sensible order
- Can it sit wholly on the drive? If yes, book that and skip the permit.
- If it has to go on the road, tell the hire firm which roads authority covers your street and ask them to apply under the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984.
- Check their waste-carrier registration on SEPA – how to check a waste carrier licence.
- Size the job on the size guide.
