Skip permit: Wrexham Council

First published 11 September 2026. Last checked 11 September 2026.

Wrexham County Borough Council is the highway authority. Its streetworks skip page (checked 11 September 2026) requires a Section 139 skip permit for the adopted highway, at least seven working days’ notice, £65 for up to seven days, and £58 for each additional week.

City-centre placements are tightly controlled: skips may only be erected or removed on a Sunday, or between 6.30pm and 10.30pm Monday to Thursday, and access is via bollards on Yorke Street once the application is approved.

When you need one

The statutory hook is still Highways Act 1980, section 139. National rule: Do I need a skip permit?.

Who applies

Apply online via Wrexham’s skip permit form. In practice the hire firm applies. After approval you get an email with site requirements and a payment link; the permit is live once paid.

A sensible order

  1. Can it sit wholly on the drive? If yes, book that and skip the licence.
  2. If it has to go on the road, tell the hire firm at booking. They apply. Give them at least seven working days; longer if the drop is inside the city-centre pedestrian zone.
  3. Check their waste-carrier number – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Size the job on the size guide.
