Skip permit: Bridgend Council

First published 11 September 2026. Last checked 11 September 2026.

Bridgend County Borough Council issues licences for skips on footways, verges and carriageways. The council’s published application form (checked 11 September 2026) states a charge of £42.61 upon application and requires public liability insurance of at least £5 million. Permits are for legitimate contractors, not householders.

The council’s web landing page does not list the fee in HTML – the £42.61 figure is taken from Bridgend’s own “Application to place a skip on the highway” form. Recheck that form or Business Support before you book.

When you need one

The statutory hook is still Highways Act 1980, section 139. National rule: Do I need a skip permit?.

A sensible order

  1. Can it sit wholly on the drive? If yes, book that and skip the licence.
  2. If it has to go on the road, tell the hire firm at booking. They apply. Ask the firm to use Bridgend’s skip application and confirm the £42.61 charge is still current.
  3. Check their waste-carrier number – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Size the job on the size guide.

Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no skip-hire prices on this page. Fee figures above are the council’s published permit charges, not a hire quote. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
