Skip permit: Conwy Council

First published 11 September 2026. Last checked 11 September 2026.

If the skip sits on a Conwy County Borough public highway, the council’s highway skip licence applies. Conwy’s highway licences page (checked 11 September 2026) lists £71.90 for the skip licence, plus £14.40 where a parking restriction is needed, a £117 charge for retrospective licences, a 28-day period, and at least five working days’ notice. A skip wholly on private land you control does not need this licence.

Do not place the skip first and apply later – retrospective licences cost £117. If the bay needs a parking restriction, budget the extra £14.40 and allow the full five working days.

When you need one

The statutory hook is still Highways Act 1980, section 139. National rule: Do I need a skip permit?.

A sensible order

  1. Can it sit wholly on the drive? If yes, book that and skip the licence.
  2. If it has to go on the road, tell the hire firm at booking. They apply. Give them at least five working days; more if a parking restriction is needed.
  3. Check their waste-carrier number – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Size the job on the size guide.
