Permits
Skip permit: Powys Council
If the skip sits on a Powys public road, pavement or verge, the skip operator needs permission from Powys County Council under the Highways Act 1980 (Wales framing). The council’s Skip licence on a road page (indexed official copy checked 11 September 2026) says permission will only be granted to the skip operator, and you should have a response within 7 calendar days of submitting the request. That is a response target, not an advance-notice rule. We could not verify a printed pound figure past Cloudflare on the fees page – do not treat third-party £70 / £35 claims as fact. Check the Schedule of Highways Charges PDF or ask the hire firm.
We are not printing a Powys permit pound figure. The fee sits in the Schedule of Highways Charges linked from Road and Highways Licences fees and charges; our tools could not read that PDF past Cloudflare on 11 September 2026. Ask the hire firm what they will charge for the licence.
When you need one
- Public road, pavement or verge in Powys: yes – Highways Act 1980, section 139. Prefer land within the property boundary if you can.
- Wholly on a driveway or other private land you control: no. National rule: Do I need a skip permit?.
The statutory hook is Highways Act 1980, section 139.
Who applies
Permission will only be granted to the skip operator. Contact Parking if you need to chase a request: parkingpermits@powys.gov.uk / 01597 827465 (from the indexed official skip-licence page).
Fee, notice and size
| Item | What we could verify on 11 September 2026 |
|---|---|
| Application fee | Not printed as a usable HTML figure we could verify (Cloudflare blocked the fees PDF tools path). Check the Schedule of Highways Charges on the fees page, or ask the hire firm – do not invent £70 or £35 |
| Response target | Within 7 calendar days of submitting the request (indexed official page). Not the same as “apply X days in advance” |

A sensible order
- Can it sit wholly on the drive? If yes, book that and skip the licence.
- If it has to go on the road, tell the hire firm you are in Powys and ask them to apply as the skip operator. Do not invent a fee – check the Schedule of Highways Charges or their quote.
- Allow for the council’s response within 7 calendar days of the request.
- Check their waste-carrier number – how to check a waste carrier licence.
- Size the job on the size guide.
Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no skip-hire prices on this page. No Powys permit fee is quoted here because we could not verify the printed figure past Cloudflare. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
