Skip permit: Stirling Council

First published 11 September 2026. Last checked 11 September 2026.

If the skip sits on a Stirling public road, footway or verge, you need Section 85 permission from Stirling Council under the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984 – not Highways Act 1980. The skip permit application page (last updated 31 March 2026; checked 11 September 2026) publishes payment of £39 per week (inspection costs) and asks for at least 7 days’ notice – or one month in traffic-sensitive situations.

Failure to meet the statutory notice periods may mean consent is withheld. Attach three copies of a location plan at not less than 1:1250 with the form.

When you need one

The statutory hook is Roads (Scotland) Act 1984, section 85.

A sensible order

  1. Can it sit wholly on the drive? If yes, book that and skip the permit.
  2. If it has to go on the road, tell the hire firm which roads authority covers your street and ask them to apply under the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984.
  3. Check their waste-carrier registration on SEPA – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Size the job on the size guide.

Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no skip-hire prices on this page. The fee figures are Stirling Council's published permit charges, not a hire quote. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
