Permits
Skip permit: Aberdeenshire Council
If the skip sits on an Aberdeenshire public road, pavement or verge, you need permission under the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984, section 85 – not Highways Act 1980. The Road Services charges page (rates as of 1 April 2026; checked 11 September 2026) publishes £39.87 for a builders’ skip up to 7 days. An invoice is issued for that fee after you apply on the council’s skip form.
Scotland uses the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984, section 85. Do not assume Highways Act 1980 rules or English fees apply. Recheck the standard-charges table on the day you book.

A sensible order
- Can it sit wholly on the drive? If yes, book that and skip the permit.
- If it has to go on the road, tell the hire firm which roads authority covers your street and ask them to apply under the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984.
- Check their waste-carrier registration on SEPA – how to check a waste carrier licence.
- Size the job on the size guide.
