Skip permit: Angus Council

First published 11 September 2026. Last checked 11 September 2026.

If the skip sits on an Angus public road, you need a Section 85 skip permit from Angus Council under the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984 – not Highways Act 1980. The Section 85 page (checked 11 September 2026) publishes a single charge of £126.00 per month. Applications should be made on behalf of the customer by the hire company, with at least 10 working days’ notice (20 on traffic-sensitive routes) and £5m public liability cover.

Householders without their own £5m PL should not apply personally – the hire firm must lodge the permit. Traffic-sensitive routes need the longer lead.

When you need one

The statutory hook is Roads (Scotland) Act 1984, section 85.

Who applies

Applications for a skip permit should be made on behalf of the customer by the hire company. Skip hire companies must apply otherwise the customer would need their own public liability insurance.

A sensible order

  1. Can it sit wholly on the drive? If yes, book that and skip the permit.
  2. If it has to go on the road, tell the hire firm which roads authority covers your street and ask them to apply under the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984.
  3. Check their waste-carrier registration on SEPA – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Size the job on the size guide.

Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no skip-hire prices on this page. The fee figures are Angus Council's published permit charges, not a hire quote. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
