Skip permit: Denbighshire Council

First published 11 September 2026. Last checked 11 September 2026.

If the skip sits on a Denbighshire County Council road, pavement or grass verge, you need a skip permit. Denbighshire’s Skip permits page (checked 11 September 2026) charges £38.18 for up to 7 days or £102.97 per month, and only accepts applications from skip hire companies with £5 million public liability insurance. A skip wholly on private land you control does not need this permit.

Members of the public cannot apply. Retrospective application: £146.11 plus the licence fee if a skip is found on the highway without a licence. Extra £15.31 per day in a prohibited, restricted or suspended area.

When you need one

The statutory hook is still Highways Act 1980, section 139. National rule: Do I need a skip permit?.

Who applies

Skip hire companies only, with £5 million public liability insurance. Contact your hire company; they complete the application form. The council invoices the hire company monthly.

A sensible order

  1. Can it sit wholly on the drive? If yes, book that and skip the licence.
  2. If it has to go on the road, tell the hire firm at booking. They apply. Ask them to use Denbighshire’s skip permit form and to confirm whether the pitch is in a restricted area.
  3. Check their waste-carrier number – how to check a waste carrier licence.
  4. Size the job on the size guide.

Skip Clerk has no hire partners yet and no skip-hire prices on this page. Fee figures above are the council’s published permit charges, not a hire quote. When we add a booking link it will be marked as an affiliate link.
