A small UK directory

Pick the right skip. Check the permit. Don’t put the wrong thing in it.

Skip Clerk is a plain reference for people who need to hire a skip this week – not a marketplace, and not a list of “best skips 2026”. We write one useful page at a time: a size, a job, a council permit, a town.

01

Size the job

Start with what you are throwing away, not the biggest skip on the lorry.

02

Place it legally

Driveway: usually no permit. Road: you need a licence. Pavement: you cannot put it there.

03

Hire a licensed carrier

Ask for their waste-carrier number (it starts CBDU) and check it on the public register.

How to use this site

Read the page that matches the decision in front of you. Bathroom or one room: the 4-yard page or bathroom refit. Kitchen or mixed building waste: the 6-yard page or kitchen refit. Garden clear-out: garden clearance. Soil and rubble: soil, rubble and concrete. House clearance: the 8-yard, 10-yard or 12-yard page. Or start with the size guide. If the pile is small and you only have the drive, read Skip vs skip bag. If you only have the street, read Do I need a skip permit?. If the pile includes plasterboard, read plasterboard and skips. If it includes a sofa, read sofas, POPs seating and skips. If it includes a fridge, read fridges, freezers and WEEE. For a road drop in Bristol, read Skip permit: Bristol City Council. For the county map (Somerset Council vs North Somerset vs BANES), read Skip hire in Somerset. Check the firm’s waste carrier licence before they take the waste. Town pages now exist for Bristol and Somerset towns (Taunton, Yeovil, Bridgwater, Frome, Wells, Glastonbury, Street, Burnham-on-Sea), with more from the queue next. Permit pages cover Somerset Council, North Somerset and BANES as well as Bristol.

We do not invent prices, star ratings or “10,000 happy customers”. Where a fact is a legal rule, we point at the rule. Where operators disagree (exact skip dimensions, bag counts), we say so.
